The best choice for fireplace wood is dry wood, as using green wood can result in a very smoky fire. It's crucial to ensure the wood doesn't come from diseased trees, like ash trees impacted by the emerald ash borer. Additionally, some trees may contain high levels of sap.

Hardwoods are the best types of wood for firepits. They are generally considered better than softwoods for firepits due to their higher density and lower moister content, which leads to:

  • Longer, hotter burns

  • Less smoke and creosote buildup

  • Easier to light and maintain

Recommended tree hardwoods for firepits:

Beech, Hickory, Maple and White Oak.

Be safe and enjoy the winter season along with your outdoor fire pits and indoor fireplaces.
